Overview

The Meditation Lounge was established by former national radio personality Selena J as a refuge for those looking for a safe and sacred space to practice self-mastery through meditation, yoga, life coaching, energy healing, and intuitive readings.

Like a womb, the Meditation Lounge is the place where people prepare for a rebirth in their lives. You are cared for, nurtured, and nourished with everything that you need mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically to recreate and transform yourself into your best and highest self.

ABOUT MEDITATION

Simply put, meditation is a tool for personal growth and transformation. It is a word used to describe both the spiritual practice and state of being one within yourself. During meditation, one transcends the endless chatter of the mind and enters into a deep rest that leads to higher spiritual states of awareness. This shift in consciousness creates mental clarity, spiritual revelations, inner and physical healing, peace, joy, and an overall feeling of renewal, wellbeing and balance. A regular meditation practice has been found to produce countless mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits including a decrease in stress, physical ailments, and a greater sense of joy and satisfaction in life, 

We offer both private and group ‘learn-while-you-practice’ meditation classes for all levels. All classes are guided; the instructor leads your consciousness into a meditative state. During the experience, you learn visualization and breathing techniques, postures, and other tools to incorporate in your personal meditation time.

Private classes are customized to create the experience you need for your personal growth and spiritual development and can be booked for individuals or groups up to 20 people.

ABOUT YOGA

Yoga is a form of meditation that is also considered an alternative medicine. As a psychosomatic exercise, the stretches, poses, and movements done in yoga affect not only the body, but also the mind, spirit, and emotions as well. The word yoga itself means "union." The union is of the individual consciousness (aka soul) with the Universal Consciousness (aka Spirit). Though many people think of yoga only as physical exercises — the asanas or postures are actually creating alignment within the cells of your body resulting in total wellbeing and spiritual enlightenment.

Adopting a regular yoga practice can alleviate health problems, reduce stress and make the spine supple, which is essential for ease of physical movement and vitality. While yoga is a spiritual practice, it is also used as a complete exercise program and many people are subscribed yoga as part of physical therapy routines. 

Private and group yoga classes are available for individuals and groups up to 20 people.

What to Expect


The Experience

The Meditation Lounge is a quiet place of refuge where simplicity, cleanliness, and serenity is honored and maintained.  

During the meditation and yoga classes, you are guided to your own inner sanctuary. In every class and private session, you will experience a sense of peaceful relaxation that you will eventually learn how to carry with you into your everyday life.

Before You Come

Deep breathing is a big part of meditation and is hard to do on a full or digesting stomach. You will have a deeper and more enjoyable mediation and yoga experience if you do not eat 2 to 3 hours before class. 

We all pick up negative energy as we move about our day, and water is a great cleanser of both our physical and energetic bodies. If you can, shower just before class to cleanse your energy field of any negativity you may have picked up throughout the day. If you can’t shower, then wash your hands.

Upon Arrival

Each class is an experience once you walk through the door, for that reason, our classes cannot be interrupted once the teaching begins. If you have registered online, please arrive 5-10 minutes before class start time. If you are paying when you arrive, please arrive 10-15 minutes early. No one will be permitted to enter the studio once class has begun.

Upon arrival, prepare your mind to go within while you place your shoes and belongings in the cubby closet located just outside of the studio. Enter the studio and find your place to lounge with quiet awareness.

Selena J

Selena discovered her life’s purpose shortly after she began her meditation practice fifteen years ago. She awakened to profound inner insights, which revealed that her reason in life is to help people heal and transform their lives from the inside out. 

Already an inspirational writer, spoken word artist, and advisor to her peers, Selena stepped up to a larger audience through her 11-year radio career as a local and national on-air personality for Clear Channel Radio. She used her platform to inspire thousands nationally, helping listeners get out of abusive relationships, overcome self-sabotaging habits, and find joy and inner peace, among countless other achievements. 

Moving beyond the airwaves, Selena started a holistic health and fitness club in 2012, and its success led her to step down from her radio platforms in order to focus fully on her life-enrichment businesses. 

In October 2014, she established The Meditation Lounge as a center for conscious living, where people can practice meditation and yoga, receive life coaching, energy healing, and spiritual insight for personal growth and spiritual development. 

Live holistically, think freely, love unconditionally, and choose consciously. These are the cornerstones of the teachings that changed Selena J’s life, and in turn, have changed the lives of those who follow her work.

Carly Hilo

Yoga Instructor

Beginning a steady practice 6 years ago, Carly found that the practice of yoga and meditation offered a way to shift perspective, restore body, and maintain movement. 

Carly's classes focus on focus on calm strength, elements of meditation, and thoughtful movements, as she believes that subtlety can lead to a vast amount of exploration and grounding.

Outside of yoga, Carly is a photographer who loves biking, and being in the water. She moved to St. Louis after growing up in Hawaii and New Mexico, and is proud to call St. Louis home.

Phoenix Amrita Kaur

Yoga Instructor

Phoenix Amrita loves yoga more than chocolate. She’s been doing it since birth, but didn't start officially studying yoga until 1994.

Her journey has had a few fitful starts, but eventually she gravitated to Anusara, Ashtanga, Yin, and then finally Kundalini Yoga. 

She has completed all 5 Level 2 modules in Kundalini Yoga, which is the equivalent of a 500 hour+ training.

She teaches primarily Kundalini Yoga, but also Yin & Vinyasa and other Hatha-influenced styles. Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Mantra, Bandha, and Meditation all get served up on your yoga plate whatever class you are taking with Phoenix Amrita.

Shavasana is for dessert and often includes sound healing through the playing of the gong. She has 3 gongs that can quickly balance the nervous system and take you into a deeply relaxed and meditative state.


Raquel Hunter

Yoga Instructor

While obtaining her degree in Social Work, Raquel Hunter - University City native and natural born healer found great interest in the physical, mental, spiritual, and therapeutic attributes of yoga.

She subsequently obtained a 200 hour Yoga Instructor Certificate (via Yoga Alliance) in 2013 to assist in her life mission to heal the world starting with herself and the people around her.

Wanting to expose everyone to the health benefits of yoga, she frequently volunteers to teach yoga to "at risk" youth that are participating in various non-profit youth mentoring programs.

Raquel is meshing her skills and knowledge as a trained social worker and yoga instructor to assist you to begin or continue exploring this exciting journey of self- discovery. Her life’s mantra is “Stretch your mind, stretch your body, be healed.”

Raquel’s classes are geared towards the needs and desires of the students in her class. She wants you to be stretched, strengthened, and restored in her classes that range from slow (Yin Yoga) to moderately fast pace (Vinyasa Flow Yoga) as a Yoga Blend class.


Simone Phillips

Life Coach, Spiritual consultant, meditation teacher

Simone Phillips is a happy, free, and loving woman who shares herself as a certified life coach and spiritual consultant specializing in helping people uncover the best of who they are. Born a healer, she has spent the past 25 years cultivating and honing her gifts by conducting transformative workshops and personalized one-on-one coaching sessions. 

Simone uses her inherent gifts to lift each person toward the highest versions of themselves. She is praised for her ability to create safe and loving environments where participants in her workshops can safely explore the matters of their hearts. 

Her sessions are intentionally designed to engage every aspect of the person in order to facilitate profound personal breakthrough.
